WHAT IS CARDAMOM
Cardamom is a unique spice which belongs to southern India and also grown in Guatemala. It is known as the largest world-wide producer and exporter. It has a strong aroma with its sweetness. Mostly it goes with sweet and best Indian dishes. Two types of cardamom are available — green and black.
HISTORY OF CARDAMOM
Cardamom is known as the oldest spice. It has been using for at least 4000 years ago. Egyptians have used cardamom for medicinal purpose. They used to chew cardamom pods to keep their breath fresh. By that time it has been using as a mouth freshener.
Vikings first discovered this spice during their travels and brought it back to Scandinavia.
The Greek and Romans used cardamom as the main ingredient in perfume and aromatic oil.
Cardamom originally came from wild plants in the Western Ghats in Southern India. this area became known as Cardamom Hills as it grew there in abundance.
USE OF CARDAMOM
In Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines cardamom is commonly used. In Asia countries, it is generally used to make tea, coffee etc.
Cardamom is one of the spices that we use to make a typical Indian spice blend, that is called Garam Masala. In sweets, pastries and bread dishes, cardamom is used very well.
For thousands of years, cardamom has been using for medicinal purpose. mostly as a treatment for indigestion, asthma and bad breathing.
